Susan Marie Bunzey

10/13/1951 to 3/7/2021

Loving mother, grandmother, and wife Susan Bunzey lost her hard fought final match to glioblastoma on March 7th, 2021 at 69 years of age.  She was surrounded by her loving family during her final months who will honor her memory by continuing to live  their lives to the fullest as she did every day.

Her early years were spent in southern California between diligently studying and becoming a very well regarded tennis player. She remained a skilled and fierce competitor on the court her entire life despite a long break through much of her 30’s and 40’s.  Much to her mother Paulette Upton’’s dismay, in the early 1970’s Susan left home for the call of the Colorado mountains and her first husband Mark Stoltz.  Susan and Mark had two children, John and Emily.  Susan’s pride and joy was working hard for her family and supporting all of the various friends she met along her life’s journey.

Susan’s unbridled energy for going and exploring and meeting new people was ever present; she would rarely miss an opportunity to do so.  Her lifelong pursuit of a close relationship with God and living a truly faith-based life was an inspiration to all who knew her.  Susan and her loving second husband Roger Bunzey spent many of their 15 years together traveling worldwide taking in culture, food, and experiences.  Even in her final months, she asked Roger to take her to Las Vegas for a quick trip in her wheelchair as her indomitable spirit had grown restless for adventure.

The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Susan.  She possessed an uncanny ability to find happiness in nearly any situation.  She spent many a joyful evening shared with good friends and good food..  Her pleasant personality was infectious to all whom she met.  She is survived by her two children, John and Emily; her husband, Roger; her two brothers, Wayne and Jim; her three granddaughters Ivy, Lucy, and Opal; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
